In dermatology and aesthetic medicine, treatment with PRP (platelet rich plasma) is an innovative non-invasive technique to prevent and combat skin aging. The PRP is an autologous biological fluid obtained from the individual's blood to be treated; therefore, it allows to exclude any form of rejection and the risks related to the use of animal or pharmacological nature molecules. Treatment with PRP qualitatively improves the skin, increasing firmness, elasticity and tone.
The platelet-rich plasma is obtained with a centrifugation process that allows to separate the platelets from the other blood cell components collected from the same individual to be treated. After their inoculation within the dermis layer, activated platelets release various growth factors that stimulate and accelerate the process of healing and tissue regeneration. The bioregeneration PRP improves the aesthetics of the skin and optimizes the skin physiological parameters. It represents, for young skin, a prevention treatment, for mature skin, a treatment of skin aging. Treatment with PRP is indicated for the skin of the face, neck, décolleté, back of the hands. It 'also indicated to increase the effectiveness of any treatment carried out subsequently.
Suddenly after the treatment one could notice tiny bumps which disappear spontaneously. Rarely, for a few days after treatment in the treated areas may occur: redness, swelling, tenderness and itching sensation.Treatment with PRP can be performed alone or combined with other rejuvenation techniques.
The procedure is performed under topical anesthesia (after application of numbing cream), through the use of a very thin needle. The duration is about 30 minutes.
Usually it has an initial course of three sessions separated by one month; the effect is maintained with a booster session every 6 months.
Only recently the use of this technique has been extended to the Trichology with the intention to treat scalp problems such as premature hair loss. The platelet concentrate is injected into the skin of the scalp affected by thinning. It is important to know that the technique is only effective when the hair follicle (origin of the hair) is still vascularized. In contrary cases, the technique does not lead to any result.

Possible Complications

• localized allergic reactions, inflammation, pustules are rare and resolve spontaneously
• Minor bruising lasting several days.
